Cruelty and sexual violence were the main cause of the killings. Some of the victims had their throats cut, were beaten, shot or stabbed to death. Many of their bodies show signs of rape, torture. ''Amnesty International calls on the Guatemalan Government to demonstrate its political will to investigate these crimes, prosecute the offenders, and stop the killing''. New York Amnesty International members will mark November 25, ''the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, by visiting Guatemalan embassies in their countries and calling for justice for the hundreds of cases of murdered women in Guatemala''. According to the press reports 531 women were killed between January and October 2005, with the total figure of 527 in 2004. The police said that sexual violence against women has increased. Women are just as equal as men so why should they get misstreated, They didnt do anything wrong.

Is domestic violence a silent killer?

.A report by Amnesty International says at least one out of every three women in the world has been beaten, coerced into sex, or abused in her lifetime.

.A separate report by the University of Cape Town in South Africa, says at least four women are killed every day by an intimate partner in that country.

A problem reaches the highest levels of society. Uganda's former Vice-President Specioza Kazibwe admitted in 2002 that her husband beat her.

Domestic Violence is a silent killer and destroyer of many lives and homes in Ghana. Unfortunately, domestic violence seems to have been narrowed down to portray men as the main perpetrators of such abuses against women. In Northern Ghana some women are the worst violators of children's rights, especially young girls who maybe their step daughters and nieces. They deprive the girls of their right to education, they starve them, they have no place to sleep and above all they subject these children to all kinds of hard labour. They also subject them to physical and psychological torture. The boys see what their mothers are doing and in turn become violent; the girls too become inhumane towards other children. Thats why when someone act harsh on one person for a long time it affects them to act harsh on others.

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/40262000/jpg/_40262079_kazibwe203.jpg&imgrefurl=http://news.bbc.co.uk/nolpda/ukfs_news/hi/newsid_3798000/3798873.stm&h=152&w=203&sz=5&hl=en&start=21&um=1&tbnid=qf8qnTikiPAwNM:&tbnh=79&tbnw=105&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dabusive%2Bhusbands%26start%3D20%26ndsp%3D20%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN

How women were treated???

Millions of women throughout the world live in bad conditions. They are also treated bad for no other reason than that they are women. ''Men in Pakistan, South Africa, Peru, Russia, and Uzbekistan beat women in the home at astounding rates, while these governments alternatively refuse to intervene to protect women and punish their batterers or do so haphazardly and in ways that make women feel culpable for the violence.'' Since women feel that they deserve getting beaten because no one helps them, they dont think highly of themselves. As a direct result of inequalities found in their countries, women from Ukraine, Moldova, Nigeria, the Dominican Republic, Burma, and Thailand are bought and sold. They then are forced to work with not enough government attention to protect their rights and punish the traffickers. Also in the U.S. students discriminate against and also attack girls in school who are lesbian, bi-sexual, or transgendered, or do not conform to male standards of female behavior. Majority of the women in the world get missed treated due to just being a women.

http://hrw.org/women/

Women's Rights Movement in the U.S. TIMELINE

1848- The first women's rights convention is held in Seneca Falls, New York. Everyone but three of the people that got arrested on Sunday have been released after being told not to participate in International Women's Day activities.

http://www.feminist.org/news/newsbyte/uswirestory.asp?id=10194

http://jurist.law.pitt.edu/images/women.jpg

Women living in bad conditions

Millions of women in the world live in bad conditions, and attacks against their fundamental human rights for no other reason beside that they are women. The men in Pakistan, South Africa, Peru, Russia, and Uzbekistan beat there women in there homes. While the government refuses to protect the women and punish the people that are beating them, that causes them in ways that make women feel culpable for the violence. As if they deserve the beating while they havent done anything wrong. Women in a direct result of inequalities are found in their own countries of origin, for example women from Ukraine, Moldova, Nigeria, the Dominican Republic, Burma, and Thailand are bought and sold to work. Women's ability to enter and stay in the work force is affected by ''private employers who use women's reproductive status to exclude them from work and by discriminatory employment laws or discriminatory enforcement of the law''.

http://hrw.org/women/

Susan B. Both man and women should have the equal rights. Women are also capable of doing a job that a man is doing as good as or even better than them. Women should not be held behind because they are expected to stay home and do chore. Also to watch the kids. Women should also be able to vote as a man can. Women also should be able to work as long as a man and still get paid equally. No female should get paid less for doing the same job. Under estimating a women is not good because a women would end up feeling that she is worth nothing while she is able to do a lot of thing. My main opinion is that no matter male or female we should all be treated equally because we are all able to do the same amount of work and get equally paid for it.
http://images.ask.com/pictures?qsrc=1&o=0&l=dir&q=equal%20rights

Why didnt women have the same rights as men?

Women have not had rights such as freedom of speech and social and economical rights. They been denied of all there basic rights. Women such as Elizabeth Cady and Susan B. Anthony have fought real hard to gain equality for all women. There is two ways in which women haven’t had the same rights as men. One is through voting and the other is through job opportunities. Voting rights was considered to be one of the most important things people searched for. Women didn’t have the same rights as men and didn’t get those rights until 1920. Men thought of the women as property and they showed no type of respect for them. Women are very important in our society not only because of what they do inside their homes but also because of what they do outside of their homes. Women continue to progress, this is all because of the first women such as Elizabeth and Susan. Now in days women play an important role in society and in both public offices and private business. The percentage of women working outside of their homes has increased by a lot. Their husband didn’t want them to have too much freedom, so they kept them at home to take care of the children. The women were taught to be obedient and to do things that pleased their husbands because a woman without a husband was considered an outsider.

http://www.megaessays.com/viewpaper/24256.html

Feminism

''Feminism is a belief in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes, and a movement organized around the conviction that biological sex should not be the pre-determinant factor shaping a person's social identity or socio-political or economic rights''. Men got paid more than women because everyone thinks that all men are stronger and superior to women, but now men and women are treated equally as should be because we are all equal.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminism

http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=feminist&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2

[Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton] First Lady of the United States

Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton is the first junior United States Senator from New York and a member of the Democratic Party. As First Lady, Clinton supported women's rights and children's welfare around the world. She initiated the Children's Health Insurance Program in 1997, a federal effort that provided state support for children whose parents were unable to provide them with health coverage. Back then in the 1920s women didn’t have a lot of rights. For example they didn’t have
''The right to bodily integrity and autonomy.'' They also didnt have the right to vote, The right to hold public office, The right to work, The right to fair wages, The right to own property, The right to education, Marital rights, Parental rights, Religious rights, The right to serve in the military, and The right to enter into legal contracts. Now it is possible, Hillary Clinton is the first lady to achieve a lot. She now could also be the first female to become president of the United States.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilary_clinton

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_Rights

[Luisa Capetillo] Women's rights activist

In 1908, during the "FLT" convention, Capetillo asked the union to approve a policy for women's suffrage. She insisted that all women should have the same right to vote as men. Capetillo is considered to be one of Puerto Rico's first suffragists.
In 1912, Capetillo traveled to New York City where she organized a Cuban and Puerto Rican tobacco workers. Later on, she went to Tampa, Florida where she also organized the workers. It was in Florida that she published the second edition of "Mi Opinion". She also traveled to Cuba and Dominican Republic, where she joined the striking workers in their cause.
In 1919, she challenged the mainstream society by becoming the first woman in Puerto Rico to wear pants in public. Capetillo was sent to jail for what was then considered to be a "crime", but, the judge later dropped the charges against her. In that same year, along with other labor activists, she helped pass a minimum-wage law in the Puerto Rican Legislature.
''Luisa Capetillo died on October 10, 1922 in Puerto Rico from tuberculosis''.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_Rights
